About Me

Hi, my name is John Margavitch, but everyone calls me Jack.  I am a junior here at Dickinson College, majoring in Biology. I am  also a defensive back for the Dickinson Red Devils football team.  Here at Dickinson I’m quite involved in the community, volunteering with many organizations like Project Share, Big Brother, Special Olympics, and Be The Match.  But enough about that, let me tell you about my true passion, sports.

Ever since I can remember, I have always been playing some type of sport.  It all started with t-ball when I was 4 years old.  My dad loved the game of baseball and sparked my interest for the sport at a young age.  Eventually I burned out of the sport when  I reached high school.  I started playing soccer when I was 5 years old, and kept playing until 8th grade.  Basketball came a few years later when i entered 4th grade and made the school team.  It was fun while it lasted but eventually I gave it up.  I played many other sports along the way, but none of them lasted for a great amount of time.

Freshman Football

When I entered 7th grade my parents finally gave me permission to play football.  I wasn’t sure how I would feel about it, but I gave it a shot.  From the first game I fell in love with the sport.  It took over my passion for my two other favorite sports, baseball and soccer.  Eventually when I got to my freshman year of high school I had to make a choice between soccer football.  It was a no-brainer, my choice was football.  From there I would go on to start all three years on varsity as a defensive back.  Along the way I collected a few individual awards, but none of those were as impressive as our undefeated season my junior year and winning the conference championship.

Senior Year High School Football

Fortunately enough I was able to continue my football career at the next level while also getting an outstanding education here at Dickinson College.  As I move towards the future, I hope to continue my educational experience in dental school and someday join my sister at her practice in Texas.

I hope you enjoy this blog about the best football conference in the nation, the Big Ten.
